124 Faculties and Courses of Study Astronomy Psychology Crystallography Anthropology Statistics and Sociology It may be noted that considerable prominence is given in the Faculty of Science to tutorial teaching Small groups discuss current problems and individual tutorial arrangements are also made so that each student is in direct contact with at least one member of the academic staff Undergraduate Courses sc degree specialising in one main subject This may be taken in Mathematics Geography Pharmacology Physics Biochemistry Physiology Chemistry Botany Zoology Geology Cell Biology No additional subject is required with Mathematics but other courses require one or more allied subjects in most of which the treatment is geared to the needs of the main subject Details regarding the entry requirements for individual courses are given in the separate brochures issued for each of the main science departments and for the School of Biological Sciences sc degree in two main subjects the broad-based degree While it is intended to give individual students as much freedom as possible in selecting the two or more subjects which they wish to study there are certain difficulties of time-tables accommodation etc which make it impracticable to permit large number of combinations of subjects in the first instance The following pairs of main subjects are normally available and students will usually be expected to study third subject during the first session Mathematics and Physics Physics and Geography Mathematics and Geology Physics and Biology Mathematics and Geography Botany and Zoology Physics and Chemistry Geology and Geography Physics and Geology CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Before admission to College candidates must satisfy the University's general requirements as well as the following course requirements
