106 Faculties and Courses of Study subject also The course extends over three years of full-time study in College Applicants for French will be required to take short test set by this department For applicants still at school the paper will be sent to their respective schools in the first half of the year at dates to be arranged if possible during the Lent term Other arrangements will be made for applicants who have left school Copies of previous test papers are not available Students reading for the degree in French German or Portu- guese are required to spend their third year abroad returning to College for the final year They are accepted only on this condition All students reading for French are required to apply for an assistant- ship during their second year in College with view to spending the following year in French school Students reading for Spanish are required under arrangements approved and supervised by the Department to spend total of 18 weeks in Spain of which the third term of the first year of the course approximately 10 weeks at least must be spent in full-time study at Spanish university The remaining eight weeks in Spain normally follow this period which thus includes the greater part of the first long vacation of the course Students in their first year will be encouraged to attend lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course COMBINED STUDIES Courses will be arranged in the following combinations of subjects honours will be awarded and courses will be of three years' duration English and German Greek and Theology English and Spanish Latin and Spanish German and Greek Latin and Theology German and Latin Philosophy and Spanish German and Philosophy Philosophy and Theology German and Spanish Portuguese and Spanish Greek and Philosophy
