Annual Report of the Delegacy lxxxvii bados where lectures and seminars were given on modern develop- ments in parasitology with special reference to human affliction with fascioliasis schistosomiasis and Chagas' disease Professor Dawes undertook higher degree examining at the University of Ibadan and returned by way of Ghana Sierra Leone and The Gambia Dr Cox visited Ife Nigeria under the VISTA scheme January to March and he gave lecture to the Entomological Society of Nigeria at Ibadan University He also chaired session on Im- munity' at the meeting of the British Society for Parasitology at the University of St Andrews Dr Eltringham attended meetings in Paris and La Rochelle connected with his work as OECD Technical Secretary of the 'Wood Deterioration' group From July to October 1966 he worked on the ecology of large mammals at the Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda see Appointments xxvii and in this connection also toured the game parks and reserves in Uganda Kenya and Tanzania Dr Pye delivered lectures at the Flatford Mill Field Centre the Department of Communication Keele University the Underwater Weapons Research Establishment Portland the University of Southampton the London Natural History Society the University of Bristol the Ethology Group London Zoo and at the King's College Biophysics department He also arranged the programme for and gave the first paper at an evening symposium on Auditory Communi- cation at the Royal Society of Medicine and gave two papers at the NATO symposium on 'Animal Sonar Systems' at Frascati Italy He took part in 'Life' programme on BBC television Facilities have been provided by the Nature Conservancy for long- term study of the ecology of soil insects at Blean Woods National Nature Reserve Canterbury Kent For this purpose the department has erected an adequately equipped hut and the investigations are being carried out under the direction of Dr Healey At the request of the Port of London Authority investigations are beginning on the ecology of the Thames Estuary in relation to pollution An ecophysiological course for in-service teachers and postgraduates was given at Orielton Field Centre Pembrokeshire from August 2nd to 9th under the direction of Professor Arthur The teaching staff involved were Dr Cox Dr Pye Dr Healey of the department and Dr Newell of Westfield College
