Faculties and Courses of Study 35 CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Before admission to the course an applicant must satisfy not only the University's general requirements but also the additional requirements for entry to the course of study for the Sc Eng degree To comply with these additional requirements passes in the following subjects in the General Certificate of Education are necessary Mathematics Pure and Applied rr ×™ at Advanced level Physics or alternatively Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics at Advanced level Physics In addition pass in Chemistry at Ordinary level is preferred The above represent the normal entrance requirements but for con- ditions of acceptance governing students seeking admission in excep- tional circumstances or under the regulations for Advanced students reference should be made to the fuller information avadable in the Faculty prospectus Postgraduate Courses Research facilities are available in all departments of the Faculty Certain courses of postgraduate study are also provided These range from short advanced courses on special topics to studies extending throughout an academic or calendar year For information concerning admission to courses of postgraduate study or research and the conditions under which such studies may qualify for candidature for the degrees of Sc Eng Phil or Ph the appropriate Head of Department should be consulted CIVIL ENGINEERING course in Civil Engineering structures continuum mechanics soil and rock mechanics which covers one calendar year may be followed by students who have taken first degree in Engineering For suitably qualified candidates the course leads to the degree of Sc in the University of London Particulars are given in pamphlet issued separately
