lxx Annual Report of the Delegacy Ph Davies 'Radiation and evaporation approximation for Nigeria Ph Ibadan Wigwe 'Drainage composition and valley forms in parts of Northern and Western Nigeria Departmental Notes Professor Hare resigned at the end of the session to become the Master of Birkbeck College His two-year period as Head of Depart- ment was notable for increase in numbers of academic and technical staff and resulting expansion of activities generally He has been succeeded by Professor Pugh The department continued to work in co-ordination with the de- partment at the London School of Economics and Political Science as the Joint School of Geography Increased numbers of students made the continued integration of classes impossible for some courses which are now given on collegiate basis However joint classes have been maintained for few of the major undergraduate courses and for specialised teaching in the selective options to which King's College has been able to contribute much greater share than in the past Some joint classes have also been held for postgraduate students Field classes have also been maintained on Joint School basis at Hinchley Wood at Matlock in North Wales and in Germany Government grant of £10 800 was made to the College in support of the Second Land Utilisation Survey under the direction of Miss Coleman This should make possible the completion of the re- maining field work in England contract was made for £3 440 with the Road Research Laboratory for work on East African rainfall data This was started by Mr Davies on secondment from his post as Lecturer but has experienced difficulties following the disruption of the East African Meteorological Service and delays in the delivery of essential equipment Professor Hare was member of the Commission on University Education in Ontario and served on committees of the Royal Society the Royal Geographical Society the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources and many other institutions and organisations Miss Cole- man also served on the Land Data Sub-committee of the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources Dr Ε Yates continued as Secretary of the Board of Studies in Geography Dr Embleton conducted the Summer School in Physical Geography at Northwestern University
