xlvi Annual Report of the Delegacy 11 000 dollars in the grant to Professor Bondi and 15 000 dollars to- wards Dr Roxburgh's research project on plasma physics in an astro- physical environment Wolfson Foundation Biochemistry department grant towards the cost of rehousing the department in the rooms vacated by Physiology World Health Organisation Zoology department 000 dollars to- wards Professor Arthur's research into the detection of small quantities of malarial antigen using immunological methods STUDENT ACTIVITIES Report from the Union Society The Union Society has continued to promote the activities of its con- stituent clubs and societies with some notable success The Association Football Club once again won its Championship and the Drama Society for the second year running won the Drama Festival with Wilde's Salome Perhaps the most notable event of the year was the redecoration of the Chesham during the summer vacation which has made the building much pleasanter as centre for student activities and relaxation This perhaps is the main change in year full of changes in the life of the Union Outside College our record has not always been as it might in the Observer Mace Debating Competition our competitors were elimi- nated in the second round but at the Council our delegation once again impressed themselves on the gathering and one of their number was elected to next year's Steering Committee We are also prominent in the organisation of the Greater London Confederation of Students The Drama and Music Societies have given number of per- formances in and around London during the year Some changes have been made to the constitution and point worthy of note is the abolition of the post of Senior Woman Student whose position has been vexed one for number of years The post has been divided into that of Lady Vice-President who is now elected by the whole college and is Union officer and the President of the Women's Common Room who is elected by the women students and is concerned solely with the The Commemoration as it is now known was acclaimed as great success the highlights being the Commemoration Ball at the Planta- tion Restaurant the Personality Contest at which Ken Dodd asked the questions judged the winner and provided the 'funnies' and the
