Annual Report of the Delegacy seven faculties of the College and indicate that King's relies more than it should on the charity of other institutions The Library's main store in the Strand was evacuated in preparation for the first stage of the College's redevelopment scheme and other activities which had been carried on in those premises were transferred to the converted Norfolk Hotel where room was also found for the displaced Geography library The Library's storage problem will re- main critical until the early summer of 1967 when the extension of the University's library depository at Egham delayed by the Government's moratorium on public building is expected to be ready to receive books With the help of special grant of £2 000 the Library has acquired an Ultronic 802 tape typewriter which represents its first venture into the field of modern mechanical and electronic techniques This machine will expedite the preparation of catalogue cards and accessions lists and save the time both of clerical staff and of the seniors who have hitherto had to check each catalogue card individually It is hoped in due course to code the tapes in such way that they can ultimately be used to provide automatically compiled lists of titles in alphabetical or classified order for different subject fields and possibly for the eventual compilation of complete catalogue of the Library in volume form Consideration has also been given to the possibility of extending mech- anisation to other fields of library activity but the conclusion was reached that no advantage would be gained from so doing at the present time In October the Librarian visited the University of Liege to read paper on the relations between the University Grants Committee and British university libraries during colloquium having as its general theme the problems of university libraries in the face of the population explosion and the increasing output of published material and at the conference of German academic librarians in June he read paper on the experience of British university librarians in the use of different schemes of library classification The Librarian relinquished the chairmanship of the Association of British Theological and Philosophical Libraries after having held that office for five years FINANCE The total of Grants received from the Court of the University amoun- ted to £1 501 600 compared with £1 366 900 last year Fee income was £151 900 as against £148 300 last year As in previous years
