college fellowships The rank of 'Honorary Fellow' of King's College London was first established February 19th 1847 This name was later changed to 'Fellow' and the King's College London Act 1882 incorporates all Fellows of the College as members of the Corporation Under the King's College London Transfer Act 1908 and the Statutes framed thereunder- The Council in respect of distinction in Theology may elect persons as Fellows of the College For the purpose of electing Fellows in respect of distinction in Theology the Council shall retain all their powers of electing Fellows existing immediately before the appointed day but save as aforesaid all such powers shall as from the appointed day be extinguished The Senate after considering any report received from the Delegacy of King's College may appoint as Fellows of the College persons who have been Principal or for not less than five years professor an assistant professor or reader or lecturer or Secretary of the College or have served the College in conspicuous manner and also such number of former students of the College who have become eminent at the Universities or in public life as the Senate may think fit and the Senate may by regulation from time to time fix the number to be elected annually and also the total number of such Fellows but the appointment by the Senate of any person as Fellow of the College shall not of itself entitle him to be member of the Corporation of the College The Council may appoint to be members of the Corporation of the College any Fellows of the College appointed by the Senate Regulation The Delegacy of King's College shall in February 1911 and until further order in the February of every subsequent year report on the qualifications to the title of Fellow of persons satisfying the con- ditions of the Statutes The number of Fellows elected in any one year shall not exceed four 259
