144 Library Facilities The General Library situated near the Chapel in the main building contains the catalogue of all books and periodicals in the College Library together with collection of bibliographical and other refer- ence works and selection of dictionaries and also the libraries in certain subjects new Library is planned but until this is com- pleted the libraries in most subjects will remain housed elsewhere in the College usually in close proximity to the faculties and departments they serve Hours of Opening The General Library is open in term from 30 until 45 on Mondays to Thursdays until 15 on Fridays and until 12 45 p-m on Saturdays In vacation it is open from 30 until 30 on Mondays to Fridays and until 12 noon on Saturdays except during the long vacation when the Library remains closed on Saturdays The hours of opening of the outlying subject libraries vary and as rule they are closed to readers in vacation In number of cases access to the outlying libraries is granted to key holders only but any reader may request books from such libraries to be made available for use in the General Library The Library as whole is closed on public holidays and at such other times as the College buildings are closed Catalogues The main author catalogue in the General Library contains entries for all books and periodicals in the College Library usually under the name of the author or the title of the periodical but in the case of the pub- lications of government institutions and learned societies often under the name of the issuing body Additional entries are usually given for the names of joint authors editors and authors of publications issued by government institutions and learned societies The main subject catalogue in the General Library contains entries arranged according to the scheme of classification used in the Library for all books and periodicals in the General Library and subject libraries This catalogue is not yet fully ready for use and readers experiencing difficulty in consulting it should apply to the Library staff There are in addition catalogues in each of the subject libraries These catalogues are usually confined to entries for books actually housed in the subject library concerned and readers failing to find an entry for
