Annual Report of the Delegacy xliii by his son General The Lord Robertson of Oakridge Lord Montagu of Beaulieu similarly deposited papers collected by his father The Trustees have noted with not little satisfaction that there was certainly role for the Centre to fulfd in ensuring the preservation of military papers in private hands and in June they gave dinner to representa- tives of other archive depositories concerned with military papers which was followed by useful discussion of mutual problems The Librarian paid two visits to Germany during the session On the first occasion he took part in study tour of libraries at the invitation of the German Federal Foreign Office during the course of which he visited Libraries in Berlin Bonn Cologne Frankfurt am Main Gottingcn Hanover and Munich and he later attended the annual conference of German academic librarians at the invitation of the Verein Deutscher Bibliothekare These visits provided an opportunity of seeing at first hand the great strides made by West German libraries since the war in the fields of inter-library co-operation and of the techniques of automation and also of visiting four recently completed university library buildings FINANCE The total of Grants received from the Court of the University amounted to £1 366 900 compared with £1 185 200 last year Fee income was £159 300 as against £149 800 last year As in previous years Government Departments various foundations and private firms continued their support of research projects at the College and contributed in all £92 400 The Medical Research Council maintained its subvention towards the upkeep of Biophysics at Drury Lane Departmental expenses increased from £1 011 800 last year to £1 237 000 in the present year This figure includes the cost of salaries and superannuation of the academic library technical and clerical staff of the College as well as expenditure on departmental and labora- tory maintenance and library costs Maintenance of Premises showed an increase from £205 300 to £236 200 Heat light water and power cost considerably more as did repairs and more was spent on the wages of porters and mainten- ance staff The total expenditure for the year was £1 672 600 and the total income was £1 669 800 showing deficit of £2 800 on the year's working Both the men's hostels were full throughout the session At King's
