xxxvi Animal Report of the Delegacy STUDENT STATISTICS AND DEGREE EXAMINATION SUCCESSES The numbers in square brackets are those of the previous year The number of full-time undergraduate students in the College was as follows in the Faculty of Arts 599 567 in the Faculty of Natural Science 518 518 in the Faculty of Medical Science 295 281 in the Faculty of Engineering 208 207 in the Faculty of Laws 215 234 in the Faculty of Music and in the Faculty of Theology 314 323 of whom 167 151 were taking course for the degree and the remainder course for diploma or certificate In the seven facul- ties there were thus 155 130 full-time undergraduate day students In addition there were part-time undergraduate students there were 423 373 students of whom 308 284 were full-time and 115 89 part-time taking course for higher degree or diploma and 19 14 undertaking independent research 116 95 were taking full- time course for the University Postgraduate Certificate in Education There were 19 23 taking part-time postgraduate course and 21 occasional students In the Faculty of Theology there were 10 postgraduate students and 11 occasional students 479 students sat the Final Examination in 1965 in the Faculties of Arts Science Laws and Engineering The classes of the degrees awarded were as follows Class 55 Class II 149 Class II ii 174 Class III 34 Pass 67 The First Class degrees were awarded by faculty and subject as follows In the Faculty of Arts 10 students compared with last year were placed in the First Class as follows English French German History Spanish In the Faculty of Laws students compared with last year were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Natural Science 38 students compared with 28 last year were placed in the First Class as follows Mathematics Chemistry Physics 11 Geology Zoology Sc General 13 In the Faculty of Engineering students compared with last year were placed in the First Class For further details see tables on xciv
