xxvi Annual Report of the Delegacy fellows The following were appointed Fellows of the College Mrs Patrick Stirling member of the Delegacy on the nomination of the London County Council since 1953 Judge Edward Clarke Deputy Chairman of London Sessions until 1964 when he was appointed an additional Judge at the Central Criminal Court Judge Clarke was student in the Faculty of Laws from 1927 to 1931 and is President of the Laws Branch of the Professor John Martin Cocking who was student at King's College from 1932 to 1936 He obtained the Honours degree in French Language and Literature in 1935 the teacher's diploma in 1936 and the in 1939 He was an Assistant Lecturer in the French department from 1939 to 1946 excluding war service in the Royal Artillery and Lecturer from 1946 to 1952 when he was appointed to the Chair of French which he now holds Professor Garmonsway Lecturer in English 1930-46 and Reader from 1946 until 1956 when the title of Professor was con- ferred upon him distinctions and appointments gained by past and present members of the college The Principal Dr Noble was appointed as one of the four additional representatives of the University of London on the Com- mittee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals for the period October 1st 1965 September 30th 1967 In addition he was appointed member of the Court the University Entrance and School Examinations Council the Expert Advisory Council of the Percival David Founda- tion the Council of the School of Pharmacy the Governing Body of the British Postgraduate Medical Foundation and the Council of Charing Cross Hospital Medical School Fellows Mr Justice Edmund Davies was elected President of the University College of Swansea He was Treasurer of Gray's Inn for the year 1965 Professor Smith was appointed Director of the Laboratory of the Marine Biological Association at Plymouth Professor Dudley Stamp was made Knight Bachelor in the New Year Honours List He was appointed Chairman of the Natural Resources Advisory body
