Annual Report of the Delegacy xxv deaths of former members of the college The deaths of the following were reported during the session Sir Edward Appleton Principal and Vice- Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh since 1949 From 1924 to 1936 he was Wheatstone Professor of Physics at King's College and from 1939 to 1949 was Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research He was elected Fellow of King's College in 1948 Mr Austin Town Clerk of St Pancras Borough Council for twenty-two years and former student of the Faculty of Laws Mr Ī¤ Barratt member of the staff of the Education depart- ment from 1934 to 1935 Mr Bird sc eng former student in the Faculty of Engineering As 'Fougasse' he was Arts Editor of Punch 1937-49 and Editor 1949-53 He was made Fellow of King's College in 1936 Dr Davies Emeritus Professor of Anatomy in the University of Sheffield From 1930 to 1935 he was Reader in Anatomy at King's College Sir Hector Hetherington Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow from 1936 to 1961 during which time for one year in the war the Faculty of Medicine of King's College was evacuated to Glasgow Sir Hector was elected Fellow of King's College in 1944 Tbe Reverend Canon Kirkland former student in the Faculty of Science An Honorary Canon of Ely Cathedral Fellow of the Chemical Society and of the Zoological Society he was made Fellow of King's College by the Delegacy in 1934 Mrs Freda Murray Lecturer in Education 1930-64 The Right Reverend Shapley former student of the Theological Department he served for many years in the Chaplains' Branch of the Royal Air Force From 1949 to 1962 he was Bishop of the Windward Islands He was elected Fellow of King's College in 1950 Dr Sinnatt who during fifteen years' service in the Faculty of Engineering was successively Demonstrator Senior Demonstrator and then Lecturer in Civil and Mechanical Engineering From 1920 to 1942 he was Professor of Aeronautical Science at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell Mr Wallis Supervisor in the Education department from 1948 to 1963
