Annual Report of the Council ix begun in July and almost completed by the end of the vacation but the Hostel has had to face the financial loss of no long vacation lettings in order that the new heating installation could be achieved The purchase of reconstructed Bechstein grand piano has been welcome replacement of the former instrument imported in 1888 As result of planned redecoration during the past years the interior condition of the Hostel is good the domestic life has continued to be very satis- factorily ordered by Miss Margaret Bond warminster The exterior appearance of the College has been transformed as result of extensive repairs to stonework and the facing of the Chapel walls at the cost of over Ā£5 000 paid for by the Governing Body of St Boniface College This is further example of the happy relation- ship between ourselves and the St Boniface Governors and another expression of their continuing support of the College in its present work The new Chaplain the Reverend Michael Taylor took up his duties in October during the previous term the College enjoyed the presence and ministry of the Reverend Sid well Thelejane from Umtata who is now studying for the in the Strand The College programme followed the same general pattern that has been developed over the years with view to preparing men for the life and work of the ordained ministry in these particularly uncertain days building always on the preceding three years of study in London and helping the students to think theologically in relation both to the tradition and the contemporary situation As in previous years so this year nine days participation by the whole College in the life of parish this time at Winlaton in County Durham enabled students to put teaching to the test of actual parochial experience The two conference-retreats for former students were well attended in June Forty-eight men were ordained priest at the Trinity ordina- tion and forty-nine were made deacon university degrees One postgraduate student obtained the Th degree and three the Ph degree In the Honours examination one woman obtained 1st Class
