148 Library Facilities such as the Durning-Lawrence library of Elizabethan literature and the Sterling library of rare English books The two main reading rooms Middlesex North and Middlesex South contain extensive collections of bibliographical and other reference works There are also periodicals room in which the current numbers of some 500 journals are displayed and back volumes of certain periodicals in frequent demand are available on open access Music library containing books periodicals scores and gramophone records map and Parliamentary paper room and Palaeography room containing comprehensive collection of fac- similes and catalogues of manuscripts and works on palaeography There is also an open lending library of some 70 000 volumes in greatest demand to which readers have open access The Library is provided with microfdm and microcard readers and has well equipped photographic department able to undertake most forms of document reproduction the department has Rank- Xerox 914 copying machines and Docustat machine on which readers may make their own copies for small charge The hours of opening of the University Library in term and during the Easter vacation are from 30 until on Mondays to Fridays and until on Saturdays and during the Christmas and long vacations from 30 until on Mondays to Saturdays The Library is open for reference only on Whit Monday and the previous Saturday The open lending library closes at 30 on Mondays to Fridays in term and during the Easter vacation and at at other times and no book can be fetched from the lending library or from the bookstacks after these hours The photographic department closes at 30 but the self-service xerocopying facilities are available only from 10 until 45 the Docustat machine is available at all hours when the Library is open Many of the books in the University Library including all books in the open lending library may be borrowed the period of loan varying from fortnight to four months Students may normally have six volumes on loan at one time WESTMINSTER CITY LIBRARIES As King's College lies within the City of Westminister students enjoy the privilege of using the Westminster City Libraries To take advantage of this facility the student must complete an application form obtainable from any public library in Westminster and get it
