90 General Information The affairs of the Society are conducted through an Executive Com- mittee on which sit the officers of the Society the Faculty Presidents six general representatives and the Past President Hon Secretary and Senior Woman Student It meets frequently during term Below this committee are five standing committees which co-ordinate reports from the sub-committees responsible to them respectively and which present final report to the Executive The various duties of all the committees and sub-committees are defined in the Constitution and are subject to ultimate control by the Union General Meeting which any member of the Society may attend Such General Meetings are held fortnightly throughout the term Two grades of clubs and societies exist for the benefit of the members 'approved' and 'affiliated' the finances of the latter being entirely administered and directed by the Union Society while those of the former are not in any particular the responsibility of the Union Society The affiliated clubs are The Association Football Athletic Badminton Basketball Boats Bridge Chess Cricket Cross Country Fencing Hockey Judo Netball Rifle Rugby Football Sailing Squash Racquets Swimming Tennis and Table Tennis Clubs the Drama society the Film society the Literary society the Mountaineering society the Music society the Photographic society the Ballroom Dancing club the Folk Dance club and the Motor Club The several athletic clubs are governed by captains and officers elected by their members The sporting clubs are the responsibdity of the Athletics Vice- President who is the chairman of the committee which reports directly to the Executive Committee and deals exclusively with matters affecting the sporting clubs All sports club secretaries sit on the board The finances of all affiliated societies are under the control of the Executive Committee of the Union Society which with the assistance of its Finance Standing Committee determines the amount of the grant to be made to each club from its funds Throughout term time debates and functions of social nature are arranged with view to promoting the corporate life of the College 'Commemoration Week' is normally held each year at the close of the Michaelmas term when various social functions take place in- eluding performances by the Music and Drama Societies ball and an Intercollegiate debate Commemoration Service is held in the Col- lege Chapel An Oration is sometimes given by distinguished speaker
