Annual Report of the Delegacy li talk on the Poema de mio Cid illustrated by selections from an English translation of the poem made by her in collaboration with the late Miss Janet Perry Mr Sage gave talk to the Spanish Society of the University of Nottingham on 'Is Spanish music Spanish and another to the Spanish Society of Southampton University on 'The music of Spanish ballads Mr Nadal gave reading of modern Spanish poetry at the Northampton High School for Girls He and Mr Sage organised and took part in symposium at King's College to mark the death of the poet Luis Cernuda Mr Nadal was part-author of BBC television film on 'The lean and foolish knight Don Quixote de la Mancha The establishment of Readership in Latin American Literature to which Mrs Jean Franco has been appointed is likely to prove most important development in the department In March students of the department gave three public performances of the play El tintero by Carlos Muniz DEPARTMENT OF WAR STUDIES There were eight postgraduate students in the department Professor Μ Howard served on the European Studies Commis- sion of the Institute for Strategic Studies and attended its conferences in Venice Paris and London He attended the European-American colloquium at the Washington Centre of Foreign Policy Research in May 1964 two conferences on 'Problems of NATO' held at the Atlantic Institute in Paris and the Anglo-German 'Koenigswinter' conference held in Oxford in April He took part in 'Exercise UNISON' for Commonwealth Chiefs of Staff at Dartmouth in September 1963 He lectured at the NATO Defence College the Imperial Defence College the Royal Naval Staff College Greenwich the Royal Air Force Staff College Andover and the Foreign Office Summer School at Peterhouse Cambridge in addition to various courses for Staff College candidates of the Army and the Royal Air Force Dr Μ Halperin of the Harvard Centre for International Affairs joined the department for the Michaelmas and Lent terms and gave course of lectures on 'Contemporary strategic thinking Mr Carlton and Mr Worthington were engaged within the department in research into the economic content of disarmament proposals under the auspices of the Institute for Strategic Studies
