Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxix The Nature Conservancy Geography department £1 500 and £475 in aid of work on the Land Use Survey of England The United States Army Physics department £3 150 for Professor Domb's research in theoretical physics and £2 500 to renew Professor Price's research grant STUDENT ACTIVITIES Report from the Union Society During the year the marked increase in interest reported last year was maintained some General Meetings producing almost capacity atten- dances Once again the discussion of politics at Union General Meetings was controversial matter In the Lent term the Mitcham Covered Court Appeal also mentioned last year was discontinued owing to lack of support Perhaps the greatest achievement of the Union year was the repre- sentation of the King's Union on Presidents' Council and at the Conference by the President Having already established himself through The Observer Mace competition Lee Moore was always able to make the voice of King's heard and respected After various successes in the previous two years our team reached the final of The Observer debating competition for the first time The inter-faculty debating competition was won by the Education depart- ment who beat the Arts faculty in the final The President of Debates was chosen to organise mock Council of Europe which was held in London during the Easter vacation As memorial to the late President Kennedy an appeal was launched for funds to enable one British student to study at an American uni- versity for one year King's took part in this and raised £137 In November large number of students took part in the Lord Mayor's Show and as result cheques were sent to the Lion Club and World University Service Interest in the various societies was enthusiastic The Drama Society did well in the One-Act Play Festival winning the Freshers' Cup and second place overall One member Simon Williams wrote play Four Woodcocks in Dish which was performed here and also at the Luton Play Festival The Music Society gave performances of high standard including Beethoven's Mass in for the Commemoration Concert and The Mikado during the Lent term Commemoration Week again proved great success with its climax A3
