χχχιν Annual Report of the Delegacy Chemistry Physics and Laws and in published work have been excellent The physical conditions of many of the College buddings still leave much to be desired but the quality of the work done and the standards achieved keep the College in the front rank of university institutions to-day year ago it was pleasure to report that the first stage of the Bio- physics laboratories in Drury Lane was completed it is equally pleasant now to report that the whole project is finished In these splendidly equipped laboratories Sir John Randall and his colleagues continue to prosecute their important research which maintains the distinguished world-wide reputation of the department It was disappointing year ago to have to report that all efforts to provide home for the professorship of Music in the College had been unavailing Now the picture has changed completely with the appoint- ment to the University of London King Edward Chair of Music tenable at this College of Professor Thurston Dart who by piece of very good fortune was persuaded to give up the Chair of Music at Cambridge house in Surrey Street on the edge of the College 'quadrilateral happdy fell vacant and has been assigned to the new Faculty of Music and number of students are already enrolled for October 1964 to read for the Bachelorship Additional staff will be appointed soon and every effort wdl be made to budd up the Faculty of Music to be worthy of its important place in this University and in south-east England In the field of computation further progress has been made After protracted negotiation the University has at last acquired an Atlas computer which is housed and working in budding in Gordon Square With view to bringing the schools of the university more closely into this field and to facditating their access to the computer number of direct hnes have been established and offered to the larger colleges so that they can feed in their own programmes direct from their departments King's College has purchased one of these lines and console has been set up in College so that those who work in this field will have this facdity to hand when they need it The death of Professor Wooldridge reported last year was great loss to the College and to the Geography department in par- ticular However one of his most distinguished former students Professor Kenneth Hare Dean of Arts and Science in the University of Magill accepted our invitation to return to his old college as Pro- fessor of Geography He has already won for himself an international
