Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxiii STUDENT STATISTICS AND DEGREE EXAMINATION SUCCESSES The numbers in square brackets are those of the previous year The number of full-time undergraduate students in the College was as follows in the Faculty of Arts 567 570 in the Faculty of Natural Science 518 504 in the Faculty of Medical Science 281 271 in the Faculty of Engineering 207 205 in the Faculty of Laws 234 203 and in the Faculty of Theology 323 311 of whom 151 144 were taking course for the degree and the remainder course for diploma or certificate In the six faculties there were thus 130 064 full-time undergraduate day students In addition there were 30 part-time undergraduate students there were 373 365 students of whom 284 262 were full-time and 89 103 part-time taking course for higher degree or diploma and 14 26 undertaking independent research 95 135 were taking full- time course for the University Postgraduate Certificate in Education There were 23 16 taking part-time postgraduate course and 17 occasional students In the Faculty of Theology there were 18 postgraduate students and 11 11 occasional students The following results were obtained at the Final Examinations In the Faculty of Arts students compared with 10 last year were placed in the First Class as follows Classics English French German History In the Faculty of Laws students compared with last year were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Natural Science 28 students compared with 25 last year were placed in the First Class as follows Mathematics Chemistry Physics 11 Geology Zoology Physiology Sc General In the Faculty of Engineering students compared with last year were placed in the First Class The total number of students in all Faculties except Theology who were awarded First Class was 43 42 last year ACADEMIC STUDIES The work of the College continued happily and steadily throughout the session and the results in degree examinations particularly in For further details see tables on lxxxviii
