General Information 87 In 1949 the College gave the Union Society the first four floors of the Chesham Hotel in Surrey Street These were furnished and equipped as the Union Society premises and provide refectory and bar tele- vision mixed lounges common rooms and offices The venture proved an immediate success and the Chesham is firmly established as the home of the Union Publications The official handbook giving information regarding all clubs and societies is issued to members at the beginning of each session Lucifer King's College Review the literary magazine is published once term and King's News which is of social character appears fortnightly Contributions for both periodicals are invited from members Athletic Ground The athletic ground at Mitcham was purchased by the War Memorial Committee as part of the College Memorial of the First World War and was brought into use at the beginning of 1921 Three large army huts were used as temporary pavilion accommo- dation until 1931 when the present permanent pavilion was erected and the pavilion fund instituted to repay the debt incurred in the build- ing certain sum at present Ā£250 is set aside annually by the Union Society for this fund and it is hoped to complete repayment by 1964 University of London Facilities The following facilities provided by the University of London are also available to students of the College University of London Appointments Board The University Appointments Board is the official agency set up by the Senate for the purpose of providing advice to students graduates and academic diploma holders of the University about careers other than those in medicine or theology and assistance towards employment The officers of the Board are able to advise students and graduates on all matters relating to employment in the Civil Service and other administrative services commercial technical and industrial employments teaching and other professional careers Students both men and women are recommended to apply to the Board early in the year in which they intend to take their final examinations but the officers of the Board are willing to give advice to students at any time during their University courses
