lxiv Annual Report Advanced Structural Concrete held at the Wexham Springs Research Centre of the Cement and Concrete Association Mr Gosney gave three lectures at the Technical High School Trondheim Norway in December in August he attended the eleventh International Congress of Refrigeration in Munich He was appointed Vice-President of Commission of the International Institute of Refrigeration Under the auspices of the British Council Dr Zarek arranged the engineering contributions for two weeks' course in April on 'Biomechanics in relation to orthopaedic surgery The course was attended by twenty orthopaedic surgeons from abroad As Chairman of the International Standards Organisation Group 4-Pulsating Flow Measurement Dr Zarek held three days' meeting in June at the British Standards Institute The Department of Electrical Engineering estabhshed course of postgraduate study leading to the Master's Degree The course com- prises three series of lectures on Mathematics Modern Physics and Electronics together with research project The aim of the course is to give graduates in Electrical Engineering knowledge of the theoreti- cal physics underlying recent developments in electronics and an intro- duction to research in this field In the Civil Engineering department course of twelve postgraduate lectures on Matrix Methods and Electronic Computing in Structural Engineering was given by Dr Jenkins and Mr Illston dur- ing the Lent term It was fully attended by consulting engineers con- tractors and others interested in the subject and was much appreciated C-PUBLIC LECTURES michaelmas term 1962 Public Lectures dehvered during this term were as follows Faculty of Arts 'Les Contes de fees dans l'antiquite grecque by Monsieur Jean Malye Department of Palaeography 'Latin palaeography since Traube an inaugural lecture by Professor Brown Department of War Studies 'The structure of international security two Special University Lectures by the Hon Alastair Buchan
