Annual Report lvii Ph Marian May 'Some biological aspects of the mode of action of some nitrogen mustards on the Walker rat sarcoma Ph O'Neill 'Isolation and some properties of the cell sur- face membrane of Amoeba proteus Sc Biochemistry by examination Shan Walters Departmental Notes Professor Arthur who became Head of the Department on April 1st 1963 was re-elected to the Council of the British Society of Parasitology He was invited to serve on an international committee to consider the problems of the terminology and systematics of Acari This committee met at Fort Collins Colorado in August 1963 and Professor Arthur was supported by funds from the Colorado State University the Royal Society and the College The Wellcome Trust made him grant of Ā£300 to assist in the publication of monograph on the genus Ixodes in Africa Professor Dawes lectured and demonstrated the results of his re- searches at the Universities of Malaya Singapore Hong Kong and Tokyo during short tour of the Far East as External Examiner for first degrees in Zoology During this tour he also visited the Parasito- logy departments in the Institute of Infectious Diseases the National Institute of Health the Institute of Public Health and the Meguro Museum in Tokyo the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and the Hooper Foundation Medical Centre in San Francisco Additional funds for these visits were received from the Agricultural Research Council and the Royal Society Dr Bell lectured on Biology syllabuses at the Ministry of Education biennial course for teachers in technical colleges and gave papers at the Symposium on Cell Growth and Cell Division at Liege and with Mr Jeon at the Oxford meeting of the Society for Experimental Biology Dr Barnard spoke at the UNESCO Symposium on 'Amplifica- tion methods in Biology' at the State University of New York and delivered series of six public lectures at the same university He lec- tured on his work at the Universities of Michigan Pennsylvania and Colombia during the Michaelmas term In April he lectured to the Chemische Gesellschaft Basle He presented papers at meetings of the Biochemical Society in Cambridge and London and at the Oxford conference on Cytochemical progress in electron microscopy
