Annual Report liii The outstanding event of the year has been the appointment of Dr Crombie and Dr Cadogan to Chairs at other universities see Professor Hey contributed to series of lectures on 'Newer synthetic methods' at the Royal College of Advanced Technology Salford Dr Gold gave further course of lectures at Cornell University and was guest speaker at the American Chemical Society Symposium on Carbonium Ions held at Atlantic City He lectured also at the Uni- versities of Liverpool Rochester and Tennessee and at Imperial College Dr Robertson delivered lectures at Queen's University Bel- fast on Catalytic superactivity of metal wires at Hatfield College of Techology on 'Mass spectrometry' and at the College of Advanced Technology Birmingham on 'Rates of surface reactions on metals He also contributed paper on 'Some investigations of field ionisation and field emission using thin wires' at meeting on mass spectrometry organised by the Institute of Physics and the Physical Society Dr Crombie contributed paper to the Conference of the Inter- national Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry held in London in July Dr Beattie lectured on 'Inorganic stereochemistry' at the Uni- versity of Southampton and Mr Hulme contributed paper to the Birmingham Spring Conference of the X-Ray Analysis Group of the Institute of Physics Dr Cadogan was appointed Honorary Representative of the Royal Institute of Chemistry at King's College He gave lectures at the Universities of Aberdeen Mainz and Brussels and also at Queen's College Dundee and at the Cyanamid European Research Institute at Geneva He also gave course of lectures at Queen Elizabeth College Dr Rees lectured at Imperial College Sir John Cass College and Kingston College of Technology He was invited to participate in Gordon Conference on 'Organic reactions and processes' at New Hampshire and delivered lectures at North Western Univer- sity Abbott Laboratories and Searle Co He also gave course of lectures at Royal Holloway College Dr Ī¤ Peacock contributed paper at the Faraday Society Dis- cussion held at Dundee on 'The structure of electronically excited species
