Annual Report xvu The CoUcgc Scholarship in Physiology was awarded to Mr Black NUMBER OF FULL-TIME STUDENTS The number of full-time undergraduate students in the College was as follows in the Faculty of Arts 570 554 in the Faculty of Natural Science 504 499 in the Faculty of Medical Science 271 275 in the Faculty ofEngineering 205 211 in the Faculty of Laws 203 178 and in the Faculty of Theology 311 303 of whom 144 129 were taking course for the degree and the remainder course for diploma or certificate In the six faculties there were thus 064 020 full-time undergraduate day students In addition there were 30 51 part-time undergraduate students there were 365 348 students of whom 262 253 were full-time and 103 95 part-time taking course for higher degree or diploma and 26 28 undertaking independent research 135 102 were taking full- time course for the University Postgraduate Certificate in Education There were 17 28 occasional students In the Faculty of Theology there were 18 12 postgraduate students and 11 16 occasional students STUDIES The following results were obtained at the Final Examinations In the Faculty of Arts 10 students compared with last year were placed in the First Class as follows Classics English French History Philosophy Spanish In addition student was placed in Division at the External General degree examination hi the Faculty of Laws students as last year were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Natural Science 25 students compared with 36 last year were placed in the First Class as follows Mathematics Chem- istry Physics Geology Zoology Sc General hi the Faculty of Engineering students compared with last year were placed in the First Class The total number of students in all Faculties except Theology who were awarded First Class was 42 compared with 50 last year The work of the College has proceeded happily and steadily through- out the year and the results both in Final Examinations and in published research have been very satisfactory Physical conditions in the College The numbers in square brackets are those of the previous year
