ζ ANNUAL REPORT in the afternoon the Head of the Religious Broadcasting Department of the the Reverend Canon Roy McKay spoke on The and the Parish Priest" King's College Hostel The ever-rising cost of rates wages fuel and food make it increasingly difficult to balance the budget of Hostel limited in numbers and with- out subvention In spite of an income from vacation lettings of over £2 600 which the new Matron Miss Margaret Bond was able to secure the year ended with deficit of £833 and the prospect of ever-increasing expenditure on the fabric of building which has been in constant use for fifty years The increase of fees to £160 for 1962-63 is unlikely to bridge the gap between income and expenditure The Hostel once again on its financial side presents problem to the Council On its community side the year has been enjoyable and time of growth for the students who have benefited from the presence and personality of the Sub-Warden the Reverend Derek Allen As mentioned earlier his departure after only two years to become Principal of St Stephen's House Oxford leaves us bereft but grateful for the help he has given Warminster The new pews in the Chapel and the new furniture and cutlery in the Dining Hall have been appreciated by the first generation of students to enjoy them the fourteenth group in fact since the fourth-year course began Equally appreciated has been the warmth generated in draughty building by the new oil-fired heating system made necessary by the breakdown of the old The Council is grateful for the promise of considerable financial assistance to meet this heavy expense from the special Church Assembly fund for capital expenditure in theological colleges The Warden in planning the year's programme has again shown his skill in bringing out of his treasure things new and old There has been an increase in the use of College seminars Mr Leslie Paul and five other distinguished lecturers carried out an experimental week of talks and discussions on contemporary cultural patterns the whole College spent nine days in the parish of Walton-on-the-Hill in the Diocese of Liverpool visiting teaching conducting house-meetings and sharing in the life and worship of the parish altogether no fewer than fifty-two speakers from outside visited the College during the year Eighty-five old students attended two conference-retreats in June and number of former students of St Boniface Missionary College have begun to attend these retreats Ember lists are now being sent to all old Bonificians token of the closer relationship growing up between the past and the present On Trinity Sunday 1962 fifty-three men were made deacon twenty-
