xxxviii ANNUAL REPORT The important work performed by Mrs Blaekwell in building up and administering the one-year course for graduate teachers was recognized by the conferment upon her of the title of Director of Post- graduate Training in the Department of Education Mr Beales and Dr King gave lectures at various universities in England and Ireland The latter led party of British university students visiting Czechoslovakia at Easter and gave addresses in France to the Conference of Internationally Minded Schools and the Centre Europeen de la Culture Whilst the academic performance of the students in training was up to standard their most striking contributions during the year were to the social and athletic activities of the College and they played very large part in college societies The Education Society's annual play- this year vivid production in four performances of Sean O'Casey's The Plough and the Stars by Mr Stephen Wheeler and Miss Diana James -was one of the outstanding College successes of the year DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY Number of Students General Sc General Ancillary Geography Honours Registered at Registered at Sc Special Research Total First Degrees Honours Registered at 2nd Class Upper Division 2nd Class Lower Division 3rd Class Registered at 2nd Class Upper Division 2nd Class Lower Division Sc Special 2nd Class Upper Division 2nd Class Lower Division 3rd Class 41 29 24 104
