XXV111 ANNUAL REPORT conference on The Teaching of English Literature Overseas organized by the British Council at King's College Cambridge and he was Chair- man of the Section The Profession of English at the triennial conference of the International Association of University Professors of English held in Edinburgh Professor Garmonsway lectured on The significance of Sutton Hoo at Westminster College Oxford and on medieval verse life of the patriarch Job to the London Medieval Society Dr Armstrong acted as adjudicator in The Observer Debating Tournament for universities For the Extra-Mural Department of London University he planned course of ten lectures on Experi- mental Drama 1945-62 lecturing himself on The playwright and his theatre and The Irish point of view the plays of O'Casey Behan and Murphy He also gave five lectures on modern drama at the Extra-Mural Department's two summer vacation courses In March he lectured on The Staging of Shakespeare at the Uni- versity of Leeds and in July on The Restoration Theatre to the 15 School of Acting Mr Crow lectured on English Proverbs and English Litera- ture at the Pierpont Morgan Library New York City in October 1961 In June 1962 he attended Shakespeare Study seminar at Georgetown University During the summer he lectured on The Player's Speech at the University of Kansas and on John Payne Collier at Rice University Houston Texas He also gave an address on Shake- speare the Intolerable to the Shakespeare Seminars at Stratford Ontario Dr Sheard gave talk on Academies on the Overseas Service Mr Yarker and Mr Hill each gave series of six lectures on the Romantic poets and on Shakespearian tragedy at the French Institute Mr Mutter gave course of twenty-four lectures on Vic- torians to the present" for the University of London Diploma in Literature at the City Literary Institute During the summer he gave course on Romantic Poetry at Victoria College University of British Columbia for their Summer School Mr Waldron gave an illustrated talk on English folksong to the Scandinavian Students Travel Service Summer School in London in July Mr Ε Mottram addressed the Annual General Meeting of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain in October 1961 His subject was The American theatre since 1916 He spoke at two weekend meetings at Cumberland Lodge and also gave three talks to University student societies He lectured to Theology students at King's College on William Faulkner and to students at Goldsmiths' College and the University of Sussex on William Carlos Williams and' Peterson י and The Beat generation writers Mr Mottram was invited to attend
