216 COURSE FOR THE POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN POWDER TECHNOLOGY The course for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Powder Technology extends over one academic year and is intended for students who have first degree or an acceptable equivalent qualification in Engineering Physics Chemistry or certain other branches of Applied Science The object of the course is to provide systematic training in the scientific principles of the subject for those students who intend to enter one of the many industries in which the technology of powdered materials is involved In view of the wide field of interests concerned first degree or equivalent qualification in variety of branches of science is accepted for entry to the course and the course is planned to include sufficient training in ancillary subjects to enable the student effectively to handle the specialist material involved The exact nature of the course is therefore varied in accordance with the previous training of the student The course which is organised upon the basis of close co-operation between the teaching staffs of the various Departments involved will consist of lectures in the specialist and in the necessary ancillary sub- jects together with supporting practical work in the Laboratory and Drawing Office In order to assist the student to relate the theoretical studies to in- dustrial problems lectures by specialists from Research Associations and Industry and visits to chemical works pharmaceutical factories quarries and similar establishments will be arranged In appropriate cases students may spend further period in carrying out research for Higher Degrees of the University of London The course is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research for the award of Advanced Course Studentships Director of Studies Horace Rose Sc Eng Ph Mech Chem Professor of Powder Technology
