CLASSES 155 BOTANY Acting Head of the Department Dr Sutcliffe Sc Special Botany Students should consult the Head of the Department The course to be followed lasts three years and requires two ancillary subjects to be taken from the group Chemistry Geology Mathematics Physics Physiology Statistics Zoology All students will normally be ex- pected to offer Chemistry as two-year ancillary subject Students will be examined in one of the ancillary subjects at the end of the first year and in their second ancillary subject and also in Part Sc Special Botany at the end of their second year At the end of the third year students take Part II of the Sc Special Botany Examination considerable measure of speciali- sation occurs in courses and examinations for Part II Lecture and laboratory courses will be given covering the fields of plant physiology and biochemistry anatomy cytology and genetics ecology general mycology and microbiology including some plant pathology All the courses in Botany with the exception of few lectures in the Strand are conducted at 68 Half Moon Lane 24 Half Moon Lane is near to Heme Hill and North Dulwich railway stations and the Depart- ment can also be reached by nos 68 and 196 buses from the Strand In addition series of intercollegiate courses is organised by the Board of Studies in Botany Synopsis of Courses I-Botany Ancillary to Zoology Geology etc -Lectures At least hours per week throughout one session The subjects treated are as follows -morphology and physiology cytology genetics classification and ecology of plants -Practical Class hours per week throughout two sessions II-B Sc Special Part Aj-Two-year courses Lectures at least hrs per week Laboratory work hrs per week The courses cover the various aspects of Botany indicated in above IH-B S0 Special Part II -One-year course Lectures wUl be given on plant physiology and biochemistry cytology genetics ecology mycology and bacterio- logy Laboratory work covering the above subjects and general plant anatomy and morphology will occupy at least 12 hours per week
