COURSES OP STUDY 101 Applicants for French will be required to take short test set by this department For applicants still at school the paper will be sent to their respective schools in the first half of the year at dates to be ar- ranged-if possible during the Lent term Other arrangements will be made for applicants who have left school Copies of previous test papers are not available Students reading for French or German Honours are required to spend their third year abroad returning to College for their final year They are accepted only on this condition All French Honours students are required to apply for an assistantship during their second year in College with view to spending the following year in French school Students reading for Spanish Honours are accepted only on condition that they spend the third term of the first year of their course at University in Spain Ī -FOR HIGHER DEGREES In addition to Internal Graduates of the University of London External Graduates and Graduates of other Universities are admitted to courses leading to the degrees of and Ph The degree of Lit is awarded not on thesis but on the merits of original pub- Iished work not done under direction and no course is prescribed For all details concerning the various Higher Degrees the University Regulations should be consulted Applicants should write in the first place to the Registrar for an application form which will be submitted to the Head of the Department in which their studies he On entering upon course of postgraduate study it is necessary to be formally en- rolled by the Head of the Department Ill-FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION course in professional training extending over one session three terms is open to all men and women graduates of recognised uni- versities who are accepted by the Head of the Education Department Applications for admission to the course will be considered only in the last year of the degree course and should be submitted to the Depart- ment of Education before December 15th preceding the autumn in which the applicant wishes to enter the Department Details of the Ministry of Education grants tenable in the Department are given below in the section Department of Education IV-FOR THE ACADEMIC DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION AND IN EDUCATION The duration of the course for this Academic Diploma is one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study For the course the corresponding periods are two years and three years respectively Further particulars are given at the end of this Faculty section
