SCHOLARSHIPS 61 II-IN THE FACULTY OF THEOLOGY WINCHESTER SCHOLARSHIP Founded in 1952 by the Diocesan Ordination Candidates' Committee of the Diocese of Winchester to assist men resident in that Diocese who intend to take Holy Orders in the Church of England The conditions of award are as follows The Scholarship will be of the value of Ā£40 year for four years One Scholarship will be offered every fourth year to candidates intending to take Holy Orders in the Church of England The Scholarship will be tenable in the Theological Department of King's College London The Scholarship will be awarded on the results of the examination conducted by the London Inter-Collegiate Scholarships Board The subjects for examination will be General English Paper and three of the following -Divinity English Language and Literature History Latin Greek French German Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Physics Chemistry Botany Zoology Biology Candidates offering Botany or Zoology may not offer Biology also Candidates must apply to the Secretary of the London Inter- collegiate Scholarships Board The University of London Senate House for an entry form for the examination and return it to him by November 24th They should at the same time send letter of applica- tion to the Bishop of Winchester Wolvesey Winchester and one to the Dean of King's College London saying that they are entering for the Scholarship The holder of the Scholarship will be required to enter the Faculty of Theology at King's College as an internal student of the University of London and to follow the combined course for the Diploma and the Honours degree of the University of London He will be expected to enter in the October following the examination unless by permission of the Dean of the College the award is held over to enable him to complete his military service before entering College Payment of the emoluments of the Scholarship will be made in three equal terminal instalments subject to the satisfactory attendance conduct and progress of the holder BATH AND WELLS SCHOLARSHIP Founded in 1953 by the Diocese of Bath and Wells to assist men resident in that Diocese who intend to take Holy Orders in the Church of England The conditions of award are the same as for the Winchester Scholarship except that the letter of application to the Bishop referred to in section should be addressed to the Bishop of Bath and Wells the Palace Wells Somerset For Divinity two 3-hour papers will be set one each on Gospel Clarendon Bible and on Science History and Faith Alan Richardson In 1963 the Gospel will be St Luke and in 1964 Si Mark
