iv annual report The Staff of the Theological Department elected the Reverend Joseph Robinson to the Council in place of the Reverend Dr Simon whose term of office had expired During the year the Dean of King's College accepted the invitation of the Benchers of Gray's Inn to become their Preacher Fellowship The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Arthur Michael Ramsey Archbishop of York and Archbishop-designate of Canterbury was pleased to accept election to the Fellowship of King's College Staff At the end of the summer term the Council and the College took leave of the Reverend Randolph Vincent Greenwood Tasker Professor of the Exegesis of the New Testament who had been teacher in the Depart- ment since 1926 The following Minute was adopted by the Council for insertion in the records and copy was sent to Professor Tasker The Council wishes to record on the occasion of his retirement as Professor of the Exegesis of the New Testament its deep appre- ciation of the long service of Professor Tasker to the University and the College Appointed in 1926 as lecturer in Classics Professor Tasker took over responsibility for the teaching of the New Testament in 1934 and was given the title of Professor in 1936 He was Dean of the Faculty of Theology in the University of London from 1948 to 1952 and again from 1956 to 1959 and Secretary of the Board of Studies in Theology from 1938 to 1958 By his articles in learned journals and his other publications he became known as an exact scholar and was invited to become one of the translators of the New Testament for the New English Bible which was published in 1961 He was elected Fellow of King's College in 1937 But his greatest contribution has been as teacher and tutor He has expounded the New Testament to very large classes and as tutor has won the respect and affection of his many pupils to whom he became friend as much as teacher In March 1961 his exceptional services as teacher of the New Testament were recognised by the award of Doctorate of Divinity by the Archbishop of Canterbury As member of the Council of King's College and its Finance Committee as chairman of the Hostel Committee for Vincent Square and in many other ways he has helped to guide the College with wise advice through period which was marked by national disturbance as well as internal change and developments The Council expresses its gratitude to Professor Tasker for his
