THE THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT of KING'S COLLEGE LONDON UNIVERSITY OF LONDON ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE SESSION 1960-61 presented to the COURT of the COLLEGE Council and Corporation The Council has held its usual three meetings in joint session with the Theological Committee During the year the Council learned of the impending retirement of the Visitor of the Theological Department His Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Geoffrey Francis Fisher who formerly as Bishop of London had been Deputy-Chairman of the Council Subsequently the Council received with pleasure the news that the Chairman of the Council His Grace the Archbishop of York the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Arthur Michael Ramsey would become Visitor as the new Archbishop of Canterbury On the same day it was announced that the Bishop of Bradford the Right Reverend Frederick Donald Coggan was to be the new Archbishop of York this news was welcomed by the Council who noted with particular interest that former Principal of the London College of Divinity would become the Chairman of the Council of King's College The announcement of the retirement of the Deputy-Chairman the Right Reverend and Right Honourable Henry Colville Montgomery- Campbell Bishop of London was received with regret and the Council expressed its indebtedness to him for his help and advice during the past five years The Council ended the session in the reassuring knowledge that the new Deputy-Chairman who is traditionally the effective Chair- man would be the Bishop of Peterborough the Right Reverend Robert Wright Stopford on his translation to the See of London The Council took pleasure in congratulating one of its members Fellow and former student of the College the Reverend Canon Marcus Knight on his appointment to the Deanery of Exeter The Council joined with the Delegacy and the whole College in acclaiming the election of the Principal Dr Peter Scott Noble as Vice- Chancellor of the University of London
