GENERAL INFORMATION 45 RESIDENCE I- King's College Hostel Vincent Square Westminster This hostel is for men members of the Theological Faculty only In the four-year course which is now regulation ap- proved by the Council of King's College for all King's College ordinands the third year must be spent in residence at the Hostel and the fourth year at the college at Warminster which was opened in July 1948 Although the Hostel is thus in the main final year place of residence there is certain number of rooms available for junior members of the Faculty and longer period than one year of residence is strongly recommended whenever possible Provision is made for full board on Saturdays and Sundays and for breakfast tea and dinner on other days The inclusive charge is £160 session payable in three terminal instal- ments of £54 £54 £52 For conditions of entry regulations etc application should be made to the Dean King's College Strand II- King's College Hall Warden Courtney King's College Hall stands in grounds of some four acres on the higher part of Denmark Hill and is reached from the College in about thirty minutes by bus or train There are places for 110 men some of which are reserved for students at King's College Hospital The public rooms include three pleasantly furnished common-rooms dining-room two billiard rooms and well-stocked library which in- eludes over 900 volumes bequeathed by Lord Hore-Belisha Within the grounds of the Hall are gardens lawns and two hard tennis courts Permission may also be obtained for the use of the squash racquets courts at King's College Hospital Accommodation is in single and double study-bedrooms The fees for the session are £140 or £145 for single rooms and £130 for shared rooms These fees include breakfast and dinner throughout the term and lunch and tea at the week-ends Heating in individual rooms is by gas-fires with separate meters All public rooms are centrally heated The Hospital and Denmark Hill Station are within five minutes' walk of the Hall and there are frequent electric trains to Blackfriars and Victoria Stations Bus routes convenient to the Hall include routes 68 176 and 196 from the Strand 184 from the Embankment and 185 from Victoria Application for admission should be made to the Sub-Warden King's College Hall Champion Hill as early as possible in the year in which the candidate wishes to enter the Hall Applications are considered in the summer term Ill-Halliday Hall Warden Hainsworth Built in 1934 as an hotel and acquired by the College after the war this hall of residence for men was opened in October 1950 At present 133 students from all Faculties at King's can be accommodated The building faces the South Side of Clapham Common and has garden with one hard tennis-court at the back Access to College is by bus or underground the journey takes about 40 minutes and the single fare is Is The Hall is also on the direct route between the College and the Athletic Ground at Mitcham
