ANNUAL REPORT xlvii During seven weeks' leave-of-absence Dr Dawes visited twenty- eight universities colleges and research institutions in Canada the United States and Mexico for discussions with prominent parasitologists Also at most of the places visited he lectured and held seminars or demonstrations in scientific or medical departments In collaboration with Dr Harrison Matthews Dr Arthur organized the sixth symposium of the Zoological Society of London on Disease Transmission by Ticks He acted as chairman of one of the sessions and edited the published Proceedings of the symposium He acted as Chairman of one session of the Institute of Biology's spring meeting at Bristol and was nominated to represent the Biological Council on the Advisory Technical Committee of the City and Guilds of London Institute Dr Cox read paper on vertebrate palaeontology at Oxford on his return from Harvard University where he held Harkness Fellow- ship during the year 1959-60 Dr Wolpert read paper on mechanism of cell cleavage to the tenth Congres Internationale de Biologie Cellulaire in Paris Miss Evelyn Sutton read paper at the sixth Symposium of the Zoological Society of London on Tick feeding in relation to disease transmission and another to the Parasitology Group of the Institute of Biology on Food ingestion in Ixodes ricinus FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE department of anatomy Number of Students 245 41 32 Results of Examinations 2nd 108 29 12 Departmental Notes Professor Nicol lectured on Applied Anatomy as previously at St George's Hospital and the Royal National Throat Hospital Dr Μ McMinn gave joint demonstration to the Surgical Research Society on the healing of experimental gastric ulcers Dr Mackinnon delivered short course of lectures in Anatomy to the Physiotherapy students at King's College Hospital
