ANNUAL REPORT XXXV Robbins Committee Professor Α Judges and Mr Beales attended numerous meetings of planning sub-committee of the National Advisory Council on the Supply and Training of Teachers which has been drafting evidence The department has moreover carried out survey of the attitudes of practice schools towards projects of improvement in practical training in the London area Professor Judges and Dr King were concerned with the organization of the London conference on research in the problems of technical education which met in June Professor Judges was re-elected chairman of the Conference of Heads of University Departments of Education He became Chairman of the London and Home Counties regional working party on the promotion of research in technical education He gave public lectures at the London School of Economics on Sidney Webb and on the Report of the Royal Commission on Greater London He lectured on the University of London at the Sir John Cass tercentenary celebrations He gave the annual Moray House lecture in Edinburgh Mr Beales addressed the International Conference in Rome on Private Schools in Europe and later was one of the leaders of party of 91 British professional workers in education which visited the United States in order to study the educational system of New York City Dr King was leader of the London University course on comparative education in Czecho-Slovakia He lectured to the Survey Conference of Head Teachers and to the Kent Head Teachers' Association he read paper on Virgil as countryman י to the Virgil Society He also gave lectures at the Bristol Institute of Education the Froebel Educa- tional Institute and the Dartford College of Physical Education Mrs Wakeford was adjudicator at the annual festival of verse speaking at Harrow County Girls' School The activities of students' societies and groups were numerous and widespread They included the annual Lent Term play Shaw's The Apple Cart which was given four performances It was produced by Mr Τ Hardiman and was warmly received by large audiences DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY Number of Students General Ancillary Geography Honours Registered at 38 Registered at 33 Sc Special 25 Research only Total 103
