ANNUAL REPORT xxxiii First Degrees LL 1st Class Honours 2nd Class Honours Upper Division 2nd Class Honours Lower Division Pass 40 27 Higher Degrees LL by examination -X Akinsete Barnett Dixit Mannan Okonkwo Rattray Rose Ph Jones The history and development of the Charit- able Trust from the 14th century onwards 1' During the session the historic decision was taken to discontinue evening teaching for the LL and thus to break with tradition possibly as old as the Faculty No students for evening Intermediate LL courses will be registered in future with the exception of Estate Duty Office and Probate Registry students who will be accepted for one further year only This decision is justified by the great opportunities now existing for full-time grant-aided university courses by the exist- ence of satisfactory alternative evening courses in institutes by the need to relieve the heavy teaching burden of both day and evening courses on departmental staff and by the need for the Faculty to come into line with the rest of the College The system of weekly moots introduced last session was firmly esta- Wished as the result of close and well-organized co-operation between staff and students Moot clubs were set up The Moots Final was judged by Mr Justice Diplock who awarded the Moot Cup and individual prizes Professor Graveson was one of Government's representa- tives at the Ninth Hague Conference of Private International Law He lectured at the Universities of Manchester and Madrid Professor Crane spent the first half of the session as Visiting Professor at the Tulane Institute of Comparative Law and Tulane University Law School He lectured at the University of Indiana and Louisiana State University and paid informal visits to the Law Faculties of the Universities of Chicago Illinois Pennsylvania and Temple University Philadelphia He was elected an Honorary Member of the Louisiana State Law Institute He was member of the British delega- tion to the Conference of American British and Canadian Teachers of Law Professor Crane was re-elected Chairman of the Board of Studies in Laws and Mr Davies was re-elected Secretary Dr Ī¤ James was appointed Research Director of the Youth Studies and Research Foundation and he broadcast on Solitary Confinement in Prisons Departmental Notes
