xviii ANNUAL REPORT volumes together with wide range of journals and comprehensive collection of newspaper cuttings but the most important section of the collection is undoubtedly the vast quantity of manuscript material most of it unpublished which has been acquired by Captain Liddell Hart during the many years that he has been an expert in this field and which includes the voluminous correspondence he has carried on with leading military figures as well as the notes and memoranda which he has accumulated during this period At present the entire library is remain- ing at Captain Liddell Hart's home in Buckinghamshire where all scholars of repute will have access to it and the College has made financial provision for its improved housing and for the employment of an archivist to arrange the manuscript material Captain Liddell Hart's generosity in making it possible for the College to acquire his library will not only ensure that this unique collection remains in the United Kingdom but will make King's College already the centre for the teaching of war studies in the University centre of international repute in this field The evening opening of the General Library and certain of the out- lying subject libraries envisaged in last year's report has shown real need for these facilities after formal teaching has ceased for the day in order to provide proper supervision of the Library during the evenings two additional Student Assistantships have been established It was felt appropriate that the College Library as the leading theological library in the University and one which possesses strong collection of Bibles particularly in the Marsden collection should make some contribution towards the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the first printing of the Authorized Version and an exhibition of Bibles was arranged in the Council Room during the Easter vacation Among the 118 items exhibited was copy of the 1613 printing of King James's Bible the Complutensian Polyglot of 151-4-17 the Liibeck Bible of 1494 and the Library's unique copy of the Algonquin Genesis of 1655 catalogue was prepared and 585 persons signed the visitors' book during the thirteen days that the exhibition was open The exhibition was repeated in the General Library on the occasion of the Conversazione finance The Block Grant from the Court of the University amounted to £755 100 compared with £654 550 in the previous year In addition £67 750 was received as supplementary grant for the 1960 salary revision Fee Income was £115 800 compared with £112 600 last year The total income from Donations for the year was £61 000 As in previous years these Donations were received from Government Departments various Foundations and private firms and were expended on materials and on the salaries of the research workers employed Last year the comparable figure was £52 800 Departmental expenses increased from £635 600 last year to £697 600
