xiv ANNUAL REPORT The Intermediate Laws Scholarship was awarded to Mr Williams The Rabbeth Scholarship was awarded to Mr Marsden Physio- logy The College Scholarships in Physiology were awarded to Mr Allison and Miss Jean Shorland NUMBER OF FULL-TIME STUDENTS The number of full-time undergraduate students in the College was as follows in the Faculty of Arts 537 503 in the Faculty of Natural Science 486 478 in the Faculty of Medical Science 318 323 in the Faculty of Engineering 196 212 in the Faculty of Laws 180 171 and in the Faculty of Theology 304 307 of whom 124 116 were taking course for the degree and the remainder course for diploma or certificate In the six faculties there were thus 2018 1994 full-time undergraduate day students In addition there were 74 67 part-time undergraduate students in the Faculty of Laws there were also 309 312 students of whom 209 204 were full-time and 78 81 part-time taking course for higher degree or diploma and 22 27 undertaking independent research 106 94 were taking full-time course for the University Postgraduate Certificate in Education There were 12 21 occasional students In the Faculty of Theology there were postgraduate students and 14 18 occasional students STUDIES The following results were obtained at the Final Examinations In the Faculty of Arts 18 students compared with last year were placed in the First Class as follows Classics English French German History Mathematics Spanish In the Faculty of Laws students compared with none last year were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Natural Science 31 students compared with 18 last year were placed in the First Class as follows Mathematics Chemistry Physics 11 Geography Geology Physiology Sc General In the Faculty of Engineering students compared with last year were placed in the First Class The total number of students in all Faculties except Theology who were awarded First Class was 54 compared with 32 last year Academic work in the College has continued vigorously throughout the year and the effort has been splendidly rewarded by the quite exceptional number of First Class and high Second Class degrees The numbers in square brackets are those of the previous year
