ANNUAL REPORT ix City of London Solicitors' Company's Prize and the City of London Solicitors' Company's Grotius Prize Mr Hainsworth was elected Secretary of the London Classical Society and to the Council of the Hellenic Society Dr Hewson-Browne was appointed Lecturer in Applied Mathe- matics at the University of Sheffield Mr Μ Howard was appointed by the Senate to represent the University of London on the Board of Governors of the United West- minster Schools He was appointed also member of the Council of the Royal Institute for International Affairs and of the Commission of the Churches on World Affairs Dr Jenkins was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers Mr Jones was appointed Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge and an Assistant Lecturer He was awarded the Yorke Essay Prize of the University of Cambridge Dr Leach was appointed Head of the Department of Pharma- oology at the Bradford Institute of Technology Mr Le Maitre was appointed to the staff of the British Museum of Natural History Mr Meek was appointed Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at the University of Leeds Dr Middleton was appointed Associate Professor of German at the University of Texas for the session 1961-62 Dr Prentice served on the Council of the Palaeontographical Society Mr Smart was appointed to the newly-established second Chair of Theology at the University of Birmingham Mrs Marianne Wain was appointed Lecturer in German at the University of Hull Dr Μ Wilkins was awarded Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship tenable at the University of Yale for the session 1961-62 Dr Μ Wilkins was awarded an Albert Lasker award for 1960 for his work on the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid from the American Public Health Association Dr Williams was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers The following became Recognized Teachers of the University of London during the session Dr Bell Dr Cummins Mr Curling Dr Elwell Dr Μ Fisher Mr Fraser Mr Gosney Dr Use Graham Mr Kenn Dr Rosenblat Mr Vesey and Mr Yarker Past and Present Students Dr Ansell Chemistry was awarded the Sc degree of the University of London
