94 FRIZES-MEDICAL SCIENCE BARBARA WIGLEY MEMORIAL PRIZE This Prize was founded in 1939 by the Rev Wigley and Mrs Wigley in memory of their daughter Barbara student in the Faculty of Medical Science who died on 27th January 1939 at the age of 20 before completing her course for the 2nd Examination The Prize consists of books or instruments to the value of about £7 provided that book bearing the book-plate of the Barbara Wigley Memorial Prize shall in every case form part of the Prize The Prize will be awarded annually to the woman student in the Faculty of Medical Science who shall have most distinguished herself in the 2nd Examination of that year BARCLAY-SMITH PRIZE IN ANATOMY This Prize was founded under the Will of Edward Barclay-Smith Professor of Anatomy from 1915 to 1927 who died July 5th 1945 The Prize consists of books or instruments to the value of £3 10 The Prize will be awarded annually by the Head of the Depart- ment of Anatomy at his absolute discretion to the student in the Faculty of Medical Science who has in the course of the year shown most con- vincing evidence of special distinction in Practical Anatomy or in carrying out one particular dissection McDOWALL PRIZE IN PHYSIOLOGY This Prize was founded in 1961 by Professor McDowall Halliburton Professor of Physiology in King College from 1923 to 1959 The Prize will be awarded to the best student in the Department of Physiology on the results of the first attempt at the 2nd examination special attention will be given to practical work and notebook records during the student's preceding course at College The Prize will consist of non-medical books to the value of £10 The Prize will be awarded annually on the recommendation of the Professor of Physiology VIII-IN THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING TENNANT MEDALS AND PRIZES See under Faculty of Natural Science SIEMENS PRIZES These Prizes were founded in 1883 by Sir Charles William Siemens Each Prize consists of books or instruments to the value of £5
