88 PRIZES-ARTS EARLY ENGLISH TEXT SOCIETY PRIZE The Early English Text Society gives annually Prize of Books for the best work in Early English subjects in the Department of English HUBERT HALL PRIZE FOR PALAEOGRAPHY This Prize was founded in 1927 from funds contributed by the pupils and friends of Hubert Hall Litt to celebrate his 70th birth- day Dr Hubert Hall was Reader in Palaeography from 1920 to 1926 The Prize consists of books to the value of £5 The Prize is open to all students who have within three years of the date of the examination in each year attended for not less than three terms regular courses of instruction in Palaeography or Diplomatic in connection with one of the Schools of the University The Prize will be awarded annually after examination The examination will be written and practical The paper or papers will include questions requiring knowledge of the history and theory of Palaeography with the elements of Diplomatic The regulations governing the award of the Prize may be modified from time to time by the Governing Body for the time being of Uni- versity of London King's College with the concurrence of the Council of the Royal Historical Society Entries should reach the Secretary by October let The examination will be held in October ELIZABETH LEVETT MEMORIAL PRIZE This Prize was founded in 1939 from funds contributed by the col- leagues and friends of Elizabeth Levett who was Tutor to Women Students and Lecturer in History at King's College from 1923 to 1928 and afterwards Professor of History at Westfield College The Prize is of the value of about £20 and is awarded biennially The Prize is open to all women regular students of the College who have completed the course for an honours degree in History in the University of London or have been registered as research students in the Department of History at King's College for not less than one aca- demic year The Prize will be awarded for an essay on any subject in Mediaeval History preference being given to work in Mediaeval Economic His- tory The essay should embody the results of original research and should not exceed ten thousand words in length The Prize will be offered in July 1963 and thereafter in July in alternate years Candidates should submit the subjects of their essays to the Principal for approval before October 31st in the year preceding that in which they intend to compete and should send their essays to the Secretary before May 31st If in any year in which the Prize is offered no award is made the interest thus accumulated may at the discretion of the Principal be
