82 PRIZES-THEOLOGY WORDSWORTH PRIZE The Council gives Prize to the Faculty of Theology each year in memory of Bishop Wordsworth by whom for some years the Prizes were presented The Prize which is of the value of £3 will be offered annually for the best student in the second year of the course PLUMPTRE PRIZE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE The friends and former pupils of the Very Rev Edward Hayes Plumptre Dean of Wells formerly Professor of Pastoral Theology at King's College presented to the College the sum of £128 9s 5d for the purpose of founding Prize to bear his name The Prize which is of the value of £5 is open to regular students of the Theological Faculty in their second and third year course for the final examination No student may obtain this Prize second time The Prize will be awarded for the best Essay submitted by the candidates Essays must be sent to the Secretary of the College not later than date to be announced on the Faculty notice-board Subject for Session 1961-62 English Hymnwriters of the Eighteenth Century WHICHELOW READING PRIZES These Prizes were founded in 1917 under the will of the Rev James Shearer Whichelow Vicar of St James' Muswell Hill who bequeathed £100 to found Prizes for Proficiency in Public Reading for students in the Theological Department of the College The Prizes consist of standard works in Theology Two Prizes will be allotted if sufficient merit is shown and may be either First and Second Prize or two Prizes of equal value The Prizes are open to all students in the final year of the course for the Associateship in Theology Every Candidate must produce Certificate from the Lecturer in Elocution of satisfactory attendance at the Elocution Classes or of exemption by him from such attendance ii of competence in reading list of approved candidates will be drawn up by the Lecturer in the Lent term of each session and the Examination will be held in the Easter term
