of the council xi General The flexibility of the Headlam constitution has stood up well to the test imposed on it by the appointment of theological teachers in the Faculty of Arts These new teachers and the staff of the Theological Department have been growing together into one Faculty of Theology concerned with the teaching of large body of students reading both for the and the From the Council's point of view it is matter for satisfaction that so large group of Anglican ordinands is being taught by teachers of this distinction and variety The Senate of the University has accepted proposals from the Board of Studies in Theology to change the syllabus for the Hitherto the has had the character of pass degree on which honours can be obtained From October 1960 there will be two distinct degrees the and the Honours The old Intermediate year has been abolished and the University will require instead the passing of prelim- inary examinations in Greek and Hebrew at the end of the first year These changes make it possible to plan three-year course of which the first year will be basic for all in subsequent years there will be measure of separation between those who are taking the and those who are taking the Honours courses although certain lectures will be heard in common Honours students will be expected to work primarily with texts in seminars Consequent changes in the Th have made this degree to be awarded for dissertation and two papers in examination The new courses will involve considerable changes in the programme of teaching although at present it is not possible to foresee how many students will be admitted to the new Honours degree
