THE THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT of KING'S COLLEGE LONDON UNIVERSITY OF LONDON ANNUAL REPORT OP THE COUNCIL FOR THE SESSION 1959-60 presented to the COURT of the COLLEGE Council and Corporation The Council has held its usual three meetings in joint session with the Theological Committee It was with the deepest regret that the College heard the news of the death of two Life Governors Sir Ernest Barker died on February 17th 1960 at the age of 85 He had been Principal of King's College from 1920 to 1927 was made Fellow in 1921 and Life Governor in 1934 Memorial Service in the College Chapel was attended by Lady Barker and members of the family together with many of Sir Ernest's friends and former colleagues The Right Reverend Harold William Bradfield Bishop of Bath and Wells died at the age of 61 on May lst 1960 former student of the Theological Faculty Dr Bradfield had become notable figure in the central councils of the Church without losing his pastoral care for his diocese and clergy who were devoted to him For ten years he had been Chairman of the Central Advisory Council for the Training for the Ministry and had contributed significantly to the post-war development of this important aspect of the Church's work He remained always close friend of the College and while still in hospital had accepted the invitation to become President of the King's College London Association large congregation attended memorial service in the College Chapel on Wednesday May 25th 1960 at which the Archbishop of Canterbury said the final prayers and gave the blessing Two vacancies among the Life Governors of the College have been filled in response to invitations from the Archbishop of Canterbury as Visitor The College has welcomed the Lord Chancellor the Right Hon Viscount Kilmuir and the Hon Sir Arthur Howard Chairman of the Delegacy The Reverend Professor Tasker has been elected to the Council and Mr David Hunter Johnston to the Theological Committee
