xlviii ANNUAL REPORT Ph Miss Shirley Hawkins Cytoplasmic and nuclear inherit- ance in amoebae studied by nuclear transfer 5' Sc Biochemistry by examination Ginger and Pasby Departmental Notes Professor Danielli lectured at the University of Milan in November and at various universities in the United States in February and March he read papers at the symposium on "Inheritance in micro-organisms held by the Society for General Microbiology and the symposium on Cancer chemotherapy held under the auspices of UNESCO and WHO at Louvain He gave the Woodhull Lecture on Cytoplasmic inheritance at the Royal Institution Dr Dawes took part in discussions during two conferences of the Agricultural Research Council's technical committee on diseases of sheep and cattle in October 1959 and January 1960 Dr Arthur read the opening paper at symposium on The ecology of parasites to the Parasitology Group of the Institute of Biology and also paper entitled African Journey to the London Branch of the Institute of Biology Dr Cloudsley-Thompson contributed to the British Association for the Advancement of Science symposium in September 1959 and also to the twenty-fifth Cold Spring Harbor Symposium at Long Island in June 1960 He served on the Executive and Services to Societies Committees of the Council for Nature and the Councils of the Ray Society and the London Natural History Society He was elected Honorary President of the University of London Natural History Society Dr Barnard read paper at an Informal Discussion of the Faraday Society in September 1959 Dr Α Everitt of the department of Physiology University of Sydney spent period in the department as Nuffield Travelling Fellow working on the effect of irradiation on the life-span of protozoa FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY Number of Students 247 42 24
