160 FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCE Field Classes Classes for Field-work in Geology are held during the session and form an essential part of the course short excursion of two or three days is held at the beginning of the Lent term and is followed by one lasting week to ten days in the Easter vacation There is field mapping class of three weeks duration in the Summer vacation Stu- dents taking the Sc Special degree course are required to submit two field maps of different areas at the Final examination Scientific Organisations Advanced students may wish to become Members of the Geologists' Association Junior Associates of the Geological Society of London or Student Members of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy These societies exist for the encouragement of research and the publication of new scientific knowledge The Geologists' Association in addition organises field excursions Information about conditions of member- ship may be obtained from any member of the staff Tennant Prizes in Geology The Tennant Prizes one open to students attending the First Year course and one open to students attending the more advanced courses may be awarded for proficiency at the annual examination upon the year's work JOINT SCHOOL OF GEOGRAPHY Geography is taught under an intercollegiate arrangement in the Joint School of Geography at King's College and the London School of Economics The staff of the Joint School includes Prof Jones Sc Ph Professor of Geography at the London School of Economics Prof Wise Ph Professor of Geography at the London School of Economics Prof Wooldridge Sc Professor of Geo- graphy and Head of the Department at King's College I-B General Isl Session -Physical Basis of Geography Z2-Physical Basis of Geography II Meteorology and Climatology Z3-Elements of Cartography and Map Interpretation Z4-Elements of Cartography and Map Interpretation Practical Z5-Physical Geology
