CLASSES 153 CHEMISTRY Head of the Department Donald Holroyde Hey Ph So Daniell Professor Sc Special Chemistry This course extends over three years and requires two ancillary subjects namely Physics and Mathematics University examinations are taken in Mathematics at the end of the first session and in Physics and Part of the Chemistry course at the end of the second session The results of these examinations are taken into account in awarding honours in the final examination Part II of the Chemistry examina- tion is taken at the end of the third session In addition candidates must satisfy the examiners at practical examinations in inorganic and organic chemistry and pass written translation test in German or Russian Sc General Chemistry This course is available only for students who wish to take Chemistry as three-year subject In the first session students will attend Lecture Classes zx Z2 and z3 in the second session Lecture Classes Z6 and and in the third session Lecture Classes z9 Z10 and In addition students will work in the laboratory for six hours week in the first session and for nine hours week in the second and third sessions Examinations will be held at the end of the first session Part and at the end of the third session Part II Ancillary Chemistry Students taking Chemistry ancillary to Sc Special Botany and Zoology attend in the first session Lecture Classes Z13 and Z14 and in the second session Lecture Classes Z16 and z17 working four hours week in the laboratory during each session Students taking Chemistry ancillary to Sc Special Geology attend in the first session Lecture Classes z13 and and in the second session Lecture Classes Z16 and Ze working five hours week in the laboratory during each session Advanced Courses and Research Work Facilities are afforded in the Department for carrying out research work in Inorganic Chemistry Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry either independently or under the direction of members of the staff Such work may be undertaken for the degrees of Sc with thesis and Ph Colloquia are held at intervals throughout the session Synopsis op Coitrses I-B Sc Special First Session Second Session -Inorganic Chemistry hr A5-Inorganic Chemistry hr A2-Organic Chemistry hrs A6-Organic Chemistry hrs A3-Physical Chemistry hr A7-Physical Chemistry hrs At-Practical Class θ hrs -Practical Class 12 hrs
