100 FACULTY OF ARTS subsidiary to Geography will not be required to have studied such subject previously Although as noted above the Departments of Philosophy Geo- graphy and Mathematics will be satisfied with Ο passes in classical language they will normally require three Α י' passes in all The attention of applicants for Honours Mathematics is drawn to the special requirements of the University for direct entry into that course ii For Entry to the General Course Where the three subjects selected by an applicant for this course are on the approved list and can be taken at examination the Faculty will require normally level passes in each subject French History and English Where some of the subjects selected are not on the approved list Philosophy and where Spanish or Portuguese is selected and has not been previously studied or studied only to Ο level the Faculty will normally expect applicants to have passed in three A" subjects selected from those included in the approved list Final Courses Students in their first year will be encouraged to attend lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course For the General Degree Examination three subjects have to be taken which may be selected from the following Greek Portuguese History of Philosophy Latin Spanish Logic English Ethics Mathematics French Geography Theology German History War Studies Old Norse Three papers are set in each subject and the pass fist is published in three divisions Honours are not awarded The course is one of three years duration The Honours Degree may be taken in any one of the follow- ing branches but except in the cases of Classics English History Mathe- matics and Philosophy the candidate will be required to take sub- sidiary subject also In most subjects the honours course extends over three years but if for any reason student passed final honours examination after only two years as registered internal student he or she would be required to spend third year of approved study Classics English History Latin with subsidiary Greek French Philosophy Greek with subsidiary Latin Geography Portuguese Mathematics Pure and Applied German Spanish Applicants for French or German Honours are required to take short test set by these departments For applicants still at school the paper will be sent to their respective schools in the first half of the year at dates to be arranged-if possible during the Lent term Other
